RWC and the Local Church

In September & October this year the Rugby World Cup, the third largest global sporting event, will take place in England & Wales with 20 international squads playing 48 matches in 13 venues across the country all live on ITV. Add in the 500,000 visitors expected from around the world, and it’s clear that RWC 2015 will have a significant impact on the nation.

Such an event provides a contact point for reaching out into local communities with the love of Christ, an opportunity not to be missed. Engage 2015, a network of denominations and Christian agencies, exists to provide ideas and resources for local churches to engage in such outreach.

Among these ideas are community festivals, screening games, guest events, hospitality, work with children & youth in schools, the church and the community, and even using forms of rugby itself (tag & touch) as a means of outreach.

Materials to help with all the above including video clips of current Christian rugby players talking about their faith, holiday club outlines, a sports quiz, schools materials and much more will become available over the next few weeks.

Underlying all this activity Engage 2015 is developing an extensive prayer programme.
